It’s easy to forget that not everyone across the globe who you’d like to market your Internet business to is going to be online throughout the day. This is easy to do when most of the customers you have already sold products to are very internet capable, and use the internet everyday to either work, communicate, or find things that entertain them. The truth is, however, that there are a lot of people out there who use the internet for only a few minutes a day. So what can you do to reach these people? All you have to do is go back a decade and use a tool that was once the only thing available – direct mail.
The first thing people think of when thinking of sending direct mail is writing a long, drawn out letter. Getting people interested in your products and services doesn’t require writing pages and pages of ad copy. You don’t have to do this at all! Many of the most successful direct mail campaigns have been very simple, perhaps a postcards with little writing at all. Of course, this can vary depending on what kind of business you are running and which audience you have decided to target. It may be that you need a long letter to do adequate justice to your products and services. However, you might also only need a few words and some flashy graphics to entice people to visit your site. Don’t ever think you know everything before you try it out. Make sure to put the most valid information at the start of the direct mail letter. This way the recipient will see your most valid information, even if your letter is pretty long. You will probably not believe the number of customers that will buy from you without having read even a majority of the material you sent them. Your sale is nearly certain, if you can grab their attention with those first few sentences.
Always sign your letters and postcards. Make sure that you do a sign off via handwritten signature each time, especially if you contemplate blasting out sale notices. If you are going to be sending out hundreds of postcards you might consider getting a stamp of your signature made. You should keep in mind that your recipients are going to be able to tell the difference if you use a stamp, but it’s better than not signing it at all. Signing all of your correspondence shows people that you are taking responsibility for the marketing message. This will assist you in looking more professional. Don’t make direct mailing more difficult than it has to be. As a matter of fact, if you use direct mail the right way, you could create a success out of your business in no time. Many online business owners think the only way to get their products in front of people is through online marketing methods. They don’t seem to realize that individuals who don’t use the Internet often represent an untapped source of profits. You could be pleasantly surprised at the response you may get from the people you send your mail out to. Stranger things have happened!
